I have been in Barcelona now for just over two weeks, and if you hadn’t heard already it is pretty hot over here. However, upon first arriving to this great city, I had a few days where I was nestled inside away from the rain and general greyness across the Barcelona skies.  I was observing during that time how my body and mind felt– relaxed, still, peaceful and spacious. So I am a sun-lover who was somehow born into the wrong climate, that green and rain prone island of Ireland. Anyone who knows me will know that I can have the odd moan (or rant) about the unpredictable, wet, grey and generally gloomy weather that we get, let’s say, around 350 days of the year. That’s the thing about weather though, especially Irish weather, it is a perfect reminder of UNCERTAINTY.

.

This isn’t a post about weather but more so about that feeling of uncertainty that permeates our life on a daily, if not minutely basis. When I referred that to feeling of relaxed and spaciousness, what it actually brought me to reflect on was how the body and mind react to a situation when the level of uncertainty has been decreased. For me, sitting indoors in the usually sunny Barcelona with the rain pouring down outside, I could ease and soften- even relish it- as I knew that it was not certain and it would most likely soon pass. In comparison to that same situation in Ireland the uncertainty is very much present – and with that comes resistance: Will it end? When will it end? What if it doesn’t end? Will there ever be sunshine again? (On my more melodramatic and exaggerated moments! )

.

This is how we go about our daily lives, without even realising – finding ways to avoid the uncertainties that are ever present. While a level of certainty may be there in one aspect replica cartier of our lives – for example, weather, home, relationship, career, money- there is always hermes bracelet that underlying feeling that in reality everything is uncertain, but we choose to look away from it.

.

It can be said that a lot of the time we are moving between these uncertainties and constantly trying to find something to hold onto, something to keep us feeling safe, in control or grounded – a partner, a job, enough hermes paris enamel bracelet by lucky \/brandon-veronica
money, food, plans – even down to our next caffeine fix.  Perhaps in this we are holding too tightly, trying to control the uncontrollable and resisting anything that comes between us and this control – regardless of what it may be: moving forward, letting go of things that no longer fake cartier bracelet serve us, allowing new and unknown experiences into our lives, change.

I do believe that we have a certain level of control in our lives, through choices, decisions, paths we walk and the intention behind why we do things.  In my life a daily practice in yoga and meditation help to bring my mind back to that uncertainty (even if it is just in a subtle, subconscious way) with an open heart and see that it is present – accepting it as a fundamental law of our existence. With this daily reflection I can notice where my actions are coming from – is it through fear, anger, desire, forcing, wanting, running away – all of these ways in which we react to that ever present air of uncertainty that ripples softly, and sometimes not so softly, around us.

.

You see, sometimes we are not even aware that we are doing this, not quite cartier bracelet love price
sure where these reactions are coming from and can move through life constantly moving from one reaction to the other in a way to try and protect ourselves from this uncertainty –  living in a place hermes h belt of fight of flight.

.

I ask myself, and you, to look at this uncertainty- not as something to fear replica cartier love bracelet or run away from but as something that is a natural part of life and the natural flow of the universe.  Our perception of reality on a day to day basis does not have the capacity to really see the macrocosmic and microcosmic patterns and energies at work and flowing through our lives. Instead we get caught up in this resistance and working against the flow – like flowing down a river where you can’t see the banks or where it will end up carrying you and  you try to swim against the current.  This is where anxiety, suffering, fear, anger can start to creep hermes h belt in, where we are living and reacting from this space of resistance instead of opening up to and accepting that uncertainty is there and residing in that space.

.

A daily yoga and/or meditation practice can help with this, from my own personal experience. It can help to take you gently out of this space of fear of uncertainty and slowly help you to return to a place of knowing, seeing and accepting it as it is. Each time we practice we are giving our mind and body time to process and work through this accumulation of fear of the unknown, of the uncertainty and giving you space to remember how it feels to feel safe and free and supported within this uncertainty  just as it is. You can allow yourself to just Be, not in a place where reactions are born- looking into the future, fearing what may or may not happen- but coming back into a place where life as it is resides – right here, right now.  <3
